Our Collections

An important and demanding part of the museum’s operations

The Sandefjord Museums’ collections consist of archives, artefacts, photographs and books related to whales, whaling and local history. The preservation of historical material is a demanding part of the museum’s daily operations. The goal of preserving these collections is to be able to produce new information and exhibitions based on the knowledge gained from them. The collections extent covers fact and geography and the main focus is whales and whaling in a local, national and an international perspective with local town and maritime history as a supplement. In the near future, the museum’s collections will become a part of a standarised system for all the regional museums in Vestfold
